Your Mindset Matters

How you approach this course is critical to your success in it. I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn and do well in this course and am excited to see where the learning takes us. My role as your instructor is to support you in your learning journey and challenge you to think differently about the way you think about learning, your approach to helping yourself learn how to learn, while maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.

Work through the document below and see what resonates with you. The idea is for you to consider where your current mindset is versus were you want it to be to support your goals. The idea of a fixed and growth mindset can be seen in the attached video from Carol Dweck (2014). Even further than a growth mindset is a learner’s mindset, which pushes the learner to engage in even deeper learning and understanding of the materials (Harapnuik, 2021). Many learners come into higher education with a fixed mindset due to previous learning environments (Harapnuik, 2021). By continually reflecting on where your mindset is and how you are thinking about your own success and learning throughout the course, I hope you start to develop a learner’s mindset, which will carry you through not only your time in this program, but throughout your lifelong learning journey.
